Broker Safety Tips - For Showings/Open Houses
Updated: Oct 3, 2019
DON'T LET YOUR GUARD DOWN
Until you really know a customer, remain vigilant regardless of the way they communicate, dress, or appear. It could save your life. When showing properties, follow rather than lead them through the house. Don't let them get between you and the door.
PHONE, WALLET, KEY, ETC.
Treat showings & open houses the same way you would in any other public place! Never let your personal property out of your sight!
TAKE SEPARATE CARS IF POSSIBLE
Take separate cars when showing property or at least do the driving yourself (to retain more control).
ALWAYS HAVE A QUICK EXIT PLAN
Agents should park their vehicles so they can't be blocked in. In addition, make sure you do not have to back out to leave. Many times, this may mean you will need to back into a parking position instead of heading in.
TRUST YOUR GUT
If something doesn't feel right, go with your gut feeling and escape the situation immediately!
It's better to walk away from a listing or showing and feel silly than to stay in a potentially dangerous situation!
